Aorta heart valve. Aortic valve disease may be a condition present at birth congenital heart disease or it may result from other causes. It is one of the two semilunar valves of the heart the other being the pulmonary valve. The aortic valve is a valve in the human heart between the left ventricle and the aorta.
It separates the hearts main pumping chamber left ventricle and the main artery that supplies oxygen rich blood to your body aorta. The heart has four valves. The other two are the mitral and the tricuspid valves.
This narrowing prevents the valve from opening fully which reduces or blocks blood flow from your heart into the main artery to your body aorta and onward to the rest of your body. You might need this operation if you have a problem with your heart s aortic valve. Aortic valve stenosis or aortic stenosis occurs when the hearts aortic valve narrows.
People may also be born with one unicuspid or four quadricuspid cusps but these are rare.
